Jelena Kajgo was born in Belgrade in 1969. She graduated from „Lujo Davičo“ ballet school in 1988. She specialized Contemporary dance in Athens (Sought-Eastern College) and in London (Laban Centre) and ballet criticism in New York (Dance Theatre Workshop). Since 1988, after her career as a performer finished, she has taught subjects Contemporary Dance, Modern Support and Classical Ballet in “Lujo Davičo” ballet school. She has graduated dramaturgy at Academy of Art (course leader Siniša Kovačević)

Graduated at interdisciplinary postgraduate studies at the Rectorate University of Arts in Belgrade. In 2003, her first play “The Phantoms” was premiered in Atelje 212 theatre, directed by Gorčin Stojanović. It was successfully played in Schauspielhaus in Vienna, and it had its staged readings in Minsk (National Theatre), Leeds (West Yorkshire Playhouse), London (Gate Theatre) and Bucharest (Odeon theatre). In 2004, her second play “Intimus” was premiered in the National Theatre in Belgrade. The same play has been chosen for a workshop in Royal National Theatre Studio in London, where Kajgo cooperated with director Mick Gordon.

She is the ballet critic of daily newspaper “Politika” and theatre magazine “Teatron”.

She has been director of Bitef theatre and Bitef festival since June 2009.
