SELECTOR’S WORD
The decisions of the selector of a theatre festival are always subject to limitations. One comes from the outside: the available offer of theatre productions in a segment of time, which does not depend on the selector. The second is internal: it is accepted by the selector who opts for the most coherent concept possible to manifest his aesthetic preferences in search of common elements in selected productions, the fundamental theatrical value of which goes by itself. My selection combines two elements: the first is finding the productions which reveal explicitly the social-psychological net we are caught in with the theatrical explication of identity - a subject which is important in our age. And secondly, finding a production that speaks in a language both novel and more daringly experimental.
I am cofindent that the five selected productions have these properties. These production are:
Bitef teatar
Jackie Kennedy/Medea
(Dzeki Kenedi/Medeja) by Elfriede Jelinek and Ivana Sajko, directed by Bojan ÄorÄ‘ev
