In the performance “Sutra”, the choreographer Sidi Larbi Cherkaoui, accompanied by the monks of the Tibetan monastery Shaolin, delves into exploration of the Hindi wisdom of the Buddhist sutras. He sees the deft movements of the ancient kung fu tradition as an attempt to establish the unity of the physical and the spiritual, incorporating them thus into his own experience of the contemporary European dance. Sibi Larbi’s performance “Rien de rien” won the special prize at 39th Bitef 2000.
